Synapse Physio specialises in the measurement of body symmetry to monitor body shape over a person's lifespan.
Why measure?
Measurement of body symmetry provides
- an objective method to measure posture & review effectiveness of treatment and
- provide clinical justification to funding bodies for therapy and assistive technology (wheelchairs and bed positioning supports)
Spending extended periods in asymmetrical postures, overnight and /or during the day often results in joint deformity, contractures, pain and decreased function. Progression of asymmetrical postures may affect the respiratory (e.g. lung function) and gastrointestinal system (e.g. bowel function). Early intervention and minimisation of changes to the musculoskeletal system is optimal but it is never too late to halt the progression of body shape distortion.
